Role of microscopic flora especially diatoms in crime investigation

Abstract

Branches of science like Biological science, Bio-chemistry, Biotechnology, Genetic engineering, Entomology and different parts of plants such as seed, pollen grains , cells microscopic aquatic flora, different groups of the plants provide a strong clue in crime investigation. In case of drowning to establish the difference between suicide, homicide and accident , the microscopic algae especially the diatoms, the member of the class Bacillariophyceae indicate perfect clue in establishing place and probable time of drowning. As diatoms are with hard covering is made of silicon which enters in the body along with water during drowning and are distributed along with blood to different organs of body like brain, liver , muscles, bone marrow , etc. The hard silicate covering of the diatoms does not destroy even after composition of the dead body and helps in establishing the probable site and duration of the drowning In this way . the diatoms and other micro flora play a vital role in crime investigation.
